The perfect cable car

Onto the Predigtstuhl in 8.5 minutes

The Predigtstuhlbahn was constructed in 1927/28 and has been taking visitors onto the Predigtstuhl near Bad Reichenhall ever since. It is the oldest large-cabin cable car preserved in its original state in the world and represented a milestone in cable car construction when built.

The Predigtstuhlbahn is a classic cable car where two cabins move uphill and downhill in synchronous operation. Each cabin moves on a suspension cable and is propelled by a traction cable. The cabin moving downhill pulls the other cabin upwards, ensuring maximum energy efficiency. The control equipment and drive mechanism are located in the top station.
