The cable car travels from 476 m (valley station) to 1,583 m (mountain station), covering an elevation gain of 1,107 m. The Predigtstuhl summit itself reaches 1,613 m, slightly above the mountain station.
How many people fit into one cabin?
The Predigtstuhlbahn operates with historic large cabins. Each cabin accommodates 21–25 passengers, traditionally accompanied by a conductor.

Hiking on the Predigtstuhl
Can you hike on the Predigtstuhl? Can you hike up or down from the mountain?Yes. The Predigtstuhl area offers numerous hiking routes – from easy family-friendly loops to more demanding alpine trails.
Both ascent from Bad Reichenhall and descent from the summit are possible via several routes, including paths via Schlegelmulde or Baumgarten.

Is the Predigtstuhlbahn really something special?
Yes – the Predigtstuhlbahn is unique: it is a historic original and protected as a listed heritage ensemble, including the cable car, the valley and mountain stations, the monumental support pillars, and the former 1928 mountain hotel (today’s Mountain Restaurant).
Its iconic twelve‑sided pavilion‑style cabins, featuring Plexiglas panoramic windows (a technical innovation at the time), are a signature feature.
